About EFT

Connecting People to the Planet

EFT creates immersive experiences that inspire people to explore, learn and take action for the planet. By combining education, science, conservation and adventure, we help build meaningful connections between people and the natural world.

Founder & Visionary

Ecofieldtrips was founded by Bridget Hedderman, a biologist and educationalist, and the late Helen Newman, a marine biologist and conservationist.

Bridget holds a Master’s degree in Education, and is an experienced sailor, a NAUI Divemaster, and has led the way for field studies in Southeast Asia for over two decades. Her dual expertise in pedagogy and marine science ensures that every itinerary is as academically sound as it is adventurous.

Our Story

Ecofieldtrips began with a simple belief: that the world’s greatest classrooms are often found outdoors. It was created to connect meaningful learning with real-world experiences.

Bridget understood the value of bringing classroom subjects to life through hands-on discovery, while Helen’s deep knowledge of the region’s extraordinary tropical ecosystems and conservation work opened the door to unforgettable field experiences.

Their first expedition to Bintan took place in 1997, followed by Tioman Island in 1998.

Since then, Ecofieldtrips has expanded to a wide range of destinations across Southeast Asia, developing programmes that meet the diverse needs of schools and clients from around the world. Alongside curriculum-based field studies in biology, geography, environmental science, and marine ecology, the organisation has introduced practical skills and internationally recognised qualification courses, including sailing and scuba diving.

Today, Ecofieldtrips remains dedicated to delivering exceptional educational adventures that combine academic learning, personal development, environmental stewardship, and unforgettable experiences in some of the world’s most remarkable natural environments.

Our Vision

A world where people are deeply connected to the planet and inspired to protect it for generations to come.

Our Mission

We connect people to the planet through immersive experiences that inspire learning, advance scientific research, support conservation and empower environmental stewardship.
